Diamondblue Kiteboarding is located on Block Island, Rhode Island, USA and operates out of Key West from Oct - May specializing in Kitesurfing and Stand Up Paddleboarding. Both destinations are great for kiteboarding, from beginner to expert. Block Island has waves and flat water, miles of open sandy beach and is great from Spring to Fall. Key West has warm water, flat to small wave conditions and miles of shallow water just offshore in an area known as the flats which is a short boat ride to get to. Great for lessons or free riding.

Our passion is board riding. Whatever the conditions require, we have the gear.

Diamondblue was founded in 2004 by Nick Dantu who grew up surfing in Durban, South Africa and moved to the USA in 2002. His love for riding waves extended into kitesurfing in 2003 and then into Stand Up Paddleboarding in 2007. Initially only a kiteboarding company, Diamondblue branched out into Stand Up Paddleboarding and now specializes in these disciplines.

Kiteboarding:
Kiteboarding also known as kitesurfing is a relatively new sport that first gained popularity in the late 90's. Kiteboarding is a mixture between windsurfing, surfing and wakeboarding. Different size kites allows you to kiteboard in various wind strengths. The bigger the kite, the lighter the wind you can go in and vice versa. With bigger kites you can get going in as little as 10 knots, and with smaller kites you can still sail along in strong winds of 35 knots or more.

Learning to Kiteboard
Compared to windsurfing and surfing, kiteboarding is a relatively easy sport to learn. Most students are able to get up on their board after two or three lessons from a certified kiteboarding instructor, and with a bit of practice you can do your first jump in a few days.Once you get more experienced you can catch some huge air. The pros can easily jump 30 meters or even higher.

What sort of equipment do I need?
You will need a kite, a control bar with lines, a board, and a harness. Just about all kites come standard with control bars. Optionally, you might need a wetsuit and a helmet. Most beginners wear helmets as an added safety measure. Wetsuits are needed in May and early June.
